A Weekend with Wilkinson
Big weekend coming up. Heading off in the early hours of Friday to London for the England v Scotland game. Just to be clear, I go with no expectation of Scotland winning. At all.
I love 6N away trips, it’s just such a great party atmosphere no matter where you go. If you’re a football fan you’ll never have experienced anything like it. There’s still a good bit of banter but as long as the beer keeps flowing, the songs keep ringing and the bar staff get used to Scottish currency, everyone is generally happy.
The big talking point for the weekend in Ashton’s first go at the 6 nations after the debacle that was Robinson’s time in charge, is the fact that Wilkinson is back in the team. Even for us Scots it’s good to see him back, he’s a quality player. Assuming he lasts the game he’s a minimum 15 point kicking machine and the last thing Scotland need is for England to get a 15 point start!
Anyway, enough of the actual game, this weekend is a great social event. Of the group I’m travelling with I’m the only one to have savoured the delights of getting constantly hammered (in both senses of the word) at previous assaults on Twickers. Which means I get to be mother and sort out where we’re going!
Our itinerary is as follows:
Meet at hotel Friday lunchtime, drop bags and head off into Covent Garden for a late lunch and pretty much camp out there for the day.
Saturday head over to Richmond to The Sun, where several groups of Scots spend the afternoon of the game and have done for a long long time I’m told. It always amazes me how many people fit into a pub that size. Saturday evening we’ll have a crawl along Richmond and visit a few other hostelries.
Sunday is a visit to The Church. Everyone says you should go at least once, and this will be my third time. It’s a great laugh, and a hidden piece of Southern Hemisphere culture tucked away in a corner of London. No concrete plans after that, but you get the idea by now.
Monday the rest of the boys head home with sore heads, while I sober up in time for a meeting on the Tuesday afternoon, which seemed like a good plan a few weeks ago!

Just thought it was worth pointing out that Mr Wilkinson was indeed superb against us, as I feared!
Great weekend though, thanks to all who popped out for a few beers while we were down! Glad to hear you’ve recovered Nic.
If anyone made the Church on the Sunday, yes, we were the group of kilts doing a great run through of YMCA!
