Usually a marketing tool generally overlooked by UK shoppers, this year the discount voucher is making waves amongst many top brands in the run up to the biggest spending weeks of the year.

It started with Threshers giving a South African wine company a 40% off voucher to distribute amongst their employees, families and friends. They posted the voucher on their website, and it went “viral”, with the BBC reporting the voucher had been downloaded over 800,000 times.Threshers have promised to live up to the discount vouchers, and even at a limited profit you can only imagine their sales will be going through the roof!

Searching through many forums and websites, it’s clear there are other companies who’ve cottoned-on to this tactic and are also offering “secret” vouchers in a not so secret way. While most are fairly time restricted, it seems likely that if it works well the vouchers will be rolled out again in the following weeks.

So, here’s a list of the vouchers I’ve tracked down so far.

• Threshers 40% off -  30th Nov to 10th Dec – Max Spend £500
• Gap 30% off – 26th Nov to 3rd Dec
• Borders Books 20% off – 29th Nov to 3rd Dec
• Selfridges 20% off – 1st Dec to 3rd Dec
