The Magnificent Seven
Today sees the seventh member of the HW team complete her first arduous week with us! Hi Bex, and well done on getting through it!
So how did we get from two guys IM’ing from our spare rooms to a company of seven? Well when it was just Chris and I to begin with, we just worked bloody hard to keep everything working after we built the new site. After a while we were getting so many reviews (it seemed like a lot then!) it was hard to keep up and get on with developing and maintaining the site and other projects, so we took on Mark (Nov 2004) to help out with the day to day running.
We managed to keep on top of things and get a few new projects up and running for a while, then Tweag arrived to help out with keeping the links and content up to date. I think this was around March 2005.
Alan (HW Happy) joined us in October 2005 from moviemine.com bringing much needed technical skills, and while I converted him from the Dark Side (ASP) to PHP, he still hasn’t cured my aversion to JavaScript.
Next came Jon (Jan 2006-ish) who started off helping out with reviews and content as we were getting overrun again, until we could spare him to get a PR campaign going. He’s our PR guru and enjoys it far too much.
Finally for now, Bex, a long time forum member and then moderator who we invited onto the team to look after reviews and our lovely forums. I’m not sure where we’d be if we hadn’t discovered MSN Messenger!
Employing people is possibly the scariest thing you do after starting a business, as if the responsibility to your own family wasn’t enough you feel responsible for everyone else too!
So that’s how we ended up with seven of us working in our little corner of the internet. To quote Tweag – “I’d hate to have to get a real job again” - kind of sums it up!

Keep up all the great work you and the team do…..it’s a cracking website full of nice people (dont you dare tell Jan I wrote that) and also extremely useful when looking for hotels!

Well done for a very successful year and for all the hard work you have all put into the site, it really is a showpiece and something to be very proud of.
This site is an absolute must for any traveller looking to go to any destination worldwide. It is a wealth of information and the HW site is the ultimate travel bible on the internet.
I am proud to be a moderator, and it has given me that push I needed to complete my International Travel and Tourism Diploma home study course so I can contribute more to the site. Now Iain is also a moderator we will do our best to keep HW more informative and friendly than any other travel web site. Well done to all of you.

Iain it took me 5 hours to show you how to move a post on a thread, because like any man ( YOU knew directions )…. You will do fine and you know I love you really despite you throwing things at me and kicking me out of the quiz nights. Just buck up. !!!!

I would have replied sooner, however, I am bound to the PC and it’s tough getting away :P
But on a more serious note, I’m very happy to be one of the ” Magnificent Seven”.
